A garage door that stops working is rarely a mystery. Roughly 9 out of 10 repair calls we run in Aurora come down to one of five things: a broken spring, a snapped cable, a worn or seized roller, a door off its track, or an opener that has reached the end of its life. Each has a clear fix, and because we have been repairing doors in this area since 1972, the technician usually knows which one it is from your description on the phone before the truck arrives.
The single most common failure is a torsion spring. The spring carries almost all of the door's 150 to 200 pound weight, so when it snaps the opener is left trying to lift a dead slab it was never designed to move. People often hear a bang like a firecracker, then find the door will not open or opens a few inches and stops. The right response is to stop pressing the opener button, which can burn out the motor, and to call for a same-day visit. We replace springs as a matched pair so the second one does not fail weeks later.
Cables are the next most common. A lift cable runs from the bottom of the door up to the spring assembly, and over years of use it frays and eventually breaks, often leaving the door crooked and jammed in the opening. A door hanging on one cable is under tension and can drop, so this is not a repair to attempt from a step ladder. We release the tension safely, replace both cables, and re-level the door on the track.
Rollers, hinges and tracks wear out quietly until the day the door binds, grinds or jumps the track entirely. A door off its track is the repair that looks the most alarming and is the most dangerous to force back into place, because the panels and the track edges are sharp and the door can fall. We bring it back onto the track in a controlled way, replace the damaged rollers or bracket, and check every section for the bend that threw it off in the first place.
Openers fail in their own ways: a stripped drive gear, a dead capacitor, a logic board that lost its memory, or safety sensors knocked out of alignment so the door reverses halfway. The useful first test is to disconnect the opener and lift the door by hand. If it is heavy or will not stay put, the springs are the problem, not the opener. If it lifts easily by hand but the opener still will not run it, the opener is the issue. We test both so you never pay to replace a part that was working.
What's included
Broken spring replacement
Torsion and extension springs matched to your exact door by length, wire size and wind, replaced as a pair and the door rebalanced. This is our most common same-day repair.
Cable repair and replacement
Frayed or snapped lift cables replaced, the door re-leveled on the track, and the drum seating checked so the new cable does not slip or wear prematurely.
Roller, hinge and track repair
Seized or flat-spotted rollers swapped, bent hinges replaced, and tracks realigned so the door runs quietly instead of grinding and binding on the way up.
Off-track doors put right
A door that has jumped its track brought back safely, the cause found, and the damaged section or bracket repaired so it does not happen again the next week.
Opener diagnosis and repair
Drive gears, capacitors, logic boards, trolleys and safety sensors tested and repaired. When the opener is simply past its service life, we give you the honest replacement cost rather than patching it twice.
Panel and section repair
A single backed-into or dented section is often replaceable without a whole new door. We match the panel where the door and the parts are still made, and tell you plainly when a full replacement is the better value.
